Artist Bio
Inspired by seasonal changes at the Arnold Arboretum where she walks, by the shores of the Cape where she swims, and by the magical light of coral reefs where she dives, Ginny Zanger’s landscapes and seascapes evoke nature’s wonders. Zanger’s watercolors flow onto the silky surface of Yupo paper, echoing ocean currents and shifting sands. The past year took her to artist residencies in Anhui Province, China and Ireland’s Beara Peninsula, where she painted fogscapes, returning to last fall’s installation of fog sculptures along the Emerald Necklace to continue the series. Zanger is represented by the Cove Gallery in Wellfleet and the Copley Society of Art. She is a member of Jamaica Plain’s vibrant artist community, where she lives and works.

Materials and Techniques
A watercolorist and a printmaker, I have spent the last 7 years exploring the amazing properties of Yupo paper. My watercolors flow onto this silky polypropylene plastic surface without being absorbed, echoing the organic textures of the landscapes and seascapes that so inspire me. I was first drawn to experiment with this medium to capture the magical light of the coral reefs where I dive for my underwater landscapes. My materials are portable, and this past year took me to artist residencies in Anhui Province, China and Ireland’s Beara Peninsula, where I painted fogscapes, returning to Boston’s fabulous fog sculptures along the Emerald Necklace to continue the series.
