Artist Bio
Olim Clay Co. jewelry is designed with intention and purpose. I draw inspiration from both the large and small details found in nature and my jewelry is thoughtfully crafted to spark a conversation, remind you of a favorite vacation, or bring a bit of the outdoors in. My passion for exploring new techniques has allowed me to create my work in a low-waste, small-batch, simplified way and design easy-to-wear pieces that ground you in the natural world.
I started working with polymer clay in the summer of 2020, during the early months of the COVID pandemic. It was a way to stay creative and work with my hands while I was away from my regular job running a daycare and preschool. I immediately fell in love with the material and the way that it could transform into almost anything you could imagine. In my time working in early education I had always found joy in creating physical projects with the children in my classes, and I found that joy again when I started my business.
Main Subject
Nature (mountains, leaves, trees, water)
Materials and Techniques
Each piece is entirely handmade from polymer clay and high-quality metals such as titanium, argentium silver, and 14K gold-fill. I start with basic blocks of polymer clay that are then blended together to create custom nature-inspired colors. I use different techniques such as marbling, mokume gane, and cane work to introduce the various designs and patterns. I add texture with found materials such as sandpaper. The clay is then cured in the oven until hardened, sanded and buffed until smooth, and assembled into earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, and barrettes.
